This book presents photograms (cameraless images) from Hammarkullen – a suburb to Gothenburg in Sweden, the home of the photographer. 1:1 is Zeitler’s third book with pictures from the area.
“A photogram is a photo that has been created without a camera, where the subject has been placed on or in front of a light sensitive paper and then exposed in some way. Photograms have existed since the beginning of photography with varying status, but always a little in the periphery compared with other techniques.
"Zeitler here works in the field, in Hammarkullen. (...)
The pictures in this book are repro-photographs of the originals. My thoughts go to Man Ray and László Moholy-Nagy, who photographed their cameraless images to obtain negatives which could then be enlarged. Hendrik Zeitler has done the opposite; photographed his large originals and reduced the size for the book. When Zeitler shows these images in exhibitions, he is careful to show only the originals. For the special book edition he has enclosed parts, unique cut-outs, taken from original prints that were not used. For Zeitler, there is a dichotomy between books and exhibitions. He believes that it is a compromise not to see the original or feel the artist’s hand in the book. In this way, however, you get both a number of reproductions in book form as well as a signed original picture.”

Ce livre présente des photogramme (des photographies faites sans appareil) de Hammarkullen - une banlieue de Göteborg en Suède, domicile du photographe.
1:1 est le troisième livre de Zeitler contenant des images de la région.
"Un photogramme est une photo qui a été créée sans appareil photo, le sujet ayant été placé sur ou devant un papier photosensible puis exposé d'une manière ou d'une autre. Les photogrammes existent depuis le début de la photographie avec un statut variable, mais toujours un peu en périphérie par rapport aux autres techniques."

Les images de ce livre sont des repro-photographies des originaux. Je pense à Man Ray et László Moholy-Nagy, qui photographiaient leurs images sans appareil photo pour obtenir des négatifs qui pouvaient ensuite être agrandis. Hendrik Zeitler a fait le contraire : il a photographié ses grands originaux et en a réduit la taille pour le livre. Lorsque Zeitler présente ces images dans des expositions, il prend soin de ne montrer que les originaux. Pour l'édition spéciale du livre, il a joint des parties, des découpages uniques, provenant de tirages originaux qui n'ont pas été utilisés. Pour Zeitler, il existe une dichotomie entre les livres et les expositions. Il estime que c'est un compromis de ne pas voir l'original ou de ne pas sentir la main de l'artiste dans le livre. De cette façon, cependant, vous obtenez à la fois un certain nombre de reproductions sous forme de livre ainsi qu'une image originale signée."
