For “Baggage,” Tokyo-based photographer Yang Seung-Woo approached homeless people in Japan’s capital and asked them to reveal their belongings. In the photobook, he introduces his subjects through portraits, carefully arranged photographs of the objects and items they carry, and a short profile text that includes their names, ages, places of birth, occupations and answers to the questions “What was your childhood dream?” and “What’s your dream now?”
“I always thought that the baggage they carry is filled with things that represent their lives.
But when I looked inside, it wasn’t the way I expected. It seems like the baggage itself is something very important.
It’s their travelling companion in life, and sometimes, their pillow.”

Pour "Baggage", le photographe Yang Seung-Woo, basé à Tokyo, a approché des sans-abri dans la capitale japonaise et leur a demandé de révéler leurs effets personnels. Dans le livre photo, il présente ses sujets à travers des portraits, des photographies soigneusement arrangées des objets et des articles qu'ils transportent, et un court texte de profil qui comprend leurs noms, âges, lieux de naissance, professions et réponses aux questions "Quel était votre rêve d'enfant ?" et "Quel est votre rêve actuel ?".
"J'ai toujours pensé que les bagages qu'ils transportent sont remplis de choses qui représentent leur vie.
Mais quand j'ai regardé à l'intérieur, ce n'était pas ce à quoi je m'attendais. Il semble que le bagage lui-même soit quelque chose de très important.
C'est leur compagnon de voyage dans la vie, et parfois, leur oreiller".
