Different from the intimacy of the needles and brushes that are close to me, the “truth” is like the force of solitude that pushes two bodies away from each other so they can't become one, no matter how hard they embrace each other. So what exactly is that “truth”? A photographic film is developed, and the picture is printed or stored as digital data. One name, two people? Three? Four?
The Bellamy/Bellamy editorial project is in line with tales, mythologies, stories in which family secrets are omnipresent. A recurring and fascinating human problem. Stories where each protagonist has their vision, their “version” of the story. Bellamy/Bellamy is a story. Photographic. Artistic. Graphic. Editorial. This is, therefore, a story of point of view. Indeed, this project is first and foremost the photographic work of Alexandra Bellamy around her family secret, around Claude, Dieter and Mother. But also of Carine and the others. After a long personal and photographic journey, Alexandra Bellamy has gathered, in a file, photographs of the places of her childhood, portraits and archives. Some supports are therefore photographic and others come from video and sound recordings also taken by her. The archives are diverse: letters, Polaroids from family albums or drawings taken out of boxes… Here each “object” collected has a meaning, a value, with or without an apparent link. And this is where another story begins, the meeting with the graphic designer Marion Kueny. Together, they decide to bring together this artistic work in an edition. Thus, the graphic approach allows to create an articulation between the images, to make the obvious, to tell this family myth. The numbering of the pages becomes dates. The chronology is shaken up. The points of view follow one another like in a play. Sakiko Nomura constructs her images in the shadows. Photographing her models in places as bare as their bodies, intimacy is at the heart of her work. Her images evoke the hushed atmosphere of rooms we recognize without having visited them, the rustling of sheets, the rustling of a curtain half-opened to let a ray of light enter the darkness. She approaches love, sex, relationships, and the fragility of human beings with modesty and gentleness. Combining Polaroids in trios, mixing places and moments, Nomura has created short stories that reinvent themselves according to the viewer's imagination. The Polaroid, which belongs as much to the private world as to professional photographers, is a kind of magic. By virtue of its unique physical appearance, it becomes a small spatio-temporal window that transports those who stand in front of the photograph to the moment it was taken. It is this slightly different relationship to time that appeals to Nomura: "I believe that our relationship with Polaroids can change depending on the place, the moment we look at them," she says. The book was thus designed so that the reader can either keep the initial sequence or compose their own triptychs, in order to adapt the images to their current feelings.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0258/7433/3748/files/4d7f5b63-47e7-4c15-846c-ddf712cbe091-l_9b703861-8c7f-4e3a-8872-d68cc0061a8b.png?v=1704984049
sakiko-nomura-flower
Sakiko Nomura - Flower

Sakiko Nomura
Flower

Published by LibroArte, 2015
Book size 20 x 14.8 cm
Pages 112 pages
Hardcover
ISBN 9784904541166
Signed by the artist

Sakiko Nomura, former assistant to Nobuyoshi Araki, draws us into a unique world.
