Forbidden Japan - Yakusa Tattoo and Romantica photographed by Irina Ionesco brings together her two documentations of taboos in Japan. Romantica showcases a Japanese underground avant-garde artist collaborating with Ionesco for a photography project which led into an entire series of images, nudity combined with traditional Japanese family culture. The second part of the series is about Yakusa tattoos which have been most often on the skins of men: Samurais would tattoo themselves for spiritual reasons creating sacred symbol of pain and privatization.
