Issei Suda's photo book "New Life" reveals a secret affair that took place between the photographer and an anonymous woman in a room one day in 2002. Through the Polaroid photographs, the reader follows Suda's gaze. The woman is captured in various poses and situations—sometimes seemingly model-like, other times authentic and in the act. Her face is never fully revealed; Suda's frames speak of desire and admiration.
Unlike common Polaroid film, which develops automatically, Suda's process involved applying a chemical to the film by hand. The results are deeply atmospheric, distinctive, and sensual images with an almost painterly flair. A discreet little photo book that reveals the hidden side of Suda Issei.
