The words "The Last Picture Show" greet the reader when they open the small, dark box containing Nobuyoshi Araki's photo book "Anbako" ("Dark Box"). Araki, one of Japan's most prolific photographers, spent the last five years photographing his neighborhood and home to create this work.

Now over 80 years old, Araki remains as passionate about photography as ever. The coronavirus pandemic and other life circumstances may have made things more difficult, but Araki continues to reflect, record, remember, and communicate through his photographs.

Through the photographs of his neighborhood, Araki was transported back in time, to his first encounter with a camera and to the moment he saw his elementary school upside down in the viewfinder of his father's camera obscura, alone in a world of silence. But, Araki says, it was warmth he felt there, not loneliness.

Each copy of Nobuyoshi Araki's "Anbako" includes a polaroid signed by the artist.
