A testament to the encounter in Berlin between artist photographer Ren Hang and his model Huang Jiaqi. Clothed and nude, the photographs are as much a playful examination of light as they are of youth, sensuality, sexuality, and self-examination.

Ren Hang boldly questioned the relationship between identity and sexuality. A homosexual artist, particularly influential among Chinese youth, his tone, considered subversive or pornographic, represented, in a repressive political context, the expression of a desire for creative freedom, freshness, and carefreeness. His unique vision referred to "cynical realism" (a Chinese artistic movement born of the events in Tiananmen Square in 1989). He took his own life at the age of 29, accentuating the myth surrounding his work and explaining why this book is so rare today.
