ASAKUSA is a photographic exploration of Asakusa district in Tokyo by a Dutch photographer Ronin De Goede. The photographer was observing the street life in Japan and dived into the culture of Yakuza, traditional tattoo art and Japanese culture itself. In 2017 De Goede had the opportunity to follow the work of renowned tattooist Horikazu shodai's son capturing the moments between him and his clients in the tattoo studio. The abstract photographs in Asakusa are in style of are-bure-boke as during the 1960's and 1970's in Japanese photography in black and white: rough, blurred and out of focus. Ronin de Goede took the photographs for the publication during his travels beginning in 2011. The elegant binding of the book showcases the artist's works between two covers with beautifully textured red lining, inside of a black and white printed slipcase.
