Existence is a photographic documentation of the Theater de Situation, Jōkyō Gekijo , by photographer Tamiko Nishimura. The photographer was born in 1948 in Tokyo and later graduated from Tokyo Photography College in 1969 with her photographic series around the underground theater movement directed by Jūrō Kara. After her diploma, she was collaborating with respected photographers such as Daido Moriyama and Takuma Nakahira working in style of the Provoke movement. Existence summarizes her graduation work which captures the emotions of the performers with black and white images.
