Yoko Ikeda has the extraordinary ability to see beauty in seemingly mundane objects and elevate them to the status of precious subjects. Ikeda plays with the shadows, colors, lines, and textures she encounters while moving around and observing everyday life.
Using her camera, she creates her own way of seeing and showing an external world that we don't necessarily see at first glance. In Ikeda's compositions, there are often no points of reference. The space is flattened and abstract, the location ambiguous. She experiments with unusual viewpoints and focuses. Ikeda seeks contrasts of form and light and uses unexpected framing.
The book pays homage to this abundant work through a sequence of multiple sets of associations that could be described as musical, thus giving the book its title "Counterpoint".
