Shanghai Hot Pot, China 2004 (SIGNED)
Published almost two decades after the fact, Koji Onaka’s photographs from Shanghai show a city in turmoil and constant, wide-ranging change. In beautiful, somewhat nostalgic colors, Shanghai turns huts to dust and builds skyscrapers out of dirt, keeps its traditions while modernizing its streets.
“In 2004 I visited Shanghai in China for the first time in my life. It was a world of chaos, where the city kept being destroyed as new skyscrapers leapt out of the ground.”
