This book is -without doubt- one of the most beautiful Japanese books on food. Shinoyama explores in this true masterpiece this theme which is at the border between human desire and basic need. The book begins with the scene of a Japanese tea ceremony. Then come the sugar cakes, the traditional meals, and the meals of a more family cuisine that the Japanese eat as much at home as in the restaurant: tonkatsu, okonomiyaki, tempura, sashimi etc.
The very bright colors and the use of macro zoom on freshly prepared dishes and ingredients awaken our taste buds and trigger our appetite. The photographer, by his raw and methodical way of revealing food and dishes, reveals himself a cruel touch and plays with the erotic character of the food. It seems as much to challenge as to play with the reader. We are finally faced with a perfect illustration of the concept of food porn. The object, itself carefully nestled in a golden slipcase, plays in the courtyard of great splendors and great decadences.

Ce livre est sans doute un des plus beaux livre japonais sur la nourriture. Shinoyama explore dans ce véritable chef-d’oeuvre ce thème qui se trouve à la frontière entre désir et besoin fondamental de l’homme. Le livre commence par la scène d’une cérémonie de thé japonaise. Puis viennent les gâteaux de sucre, les repas traditionnels, et les repas d’une cuisine plus familiale que les japonais dégustent autant chez eux qu’au restaurant : le tonkatsu, l’okonomiyaki, les tempura, les sashimis etc.
Les couleurs très vives et l’utilisation du zoom macro sur les plats et les ingrédients fraîchement préparés éveillent nos papilles et déclenchent l’appétit. Le photographe, par sa manière crue et méthodique de dévoiler les aliments et les plats, se révèle un brin cruel et joue avec le caractère érotique de la nourriture. Il semble autant interpeller que jouer avec le lecteur. On se retrouve finalement face à une illustration parfaite du concept de food porn. L’objet, lui-même soigneusement niché dans un écrin doré, joue dans la cour des grandes splendeurs et des grandes décadences.
