Discussion - Ai Iwane x Élodie Royer

Wednesday, June 18,
7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

As part of the exhibition on display on our walls until June 21st (A New River, Ai Iwane), we welcome the artist for a conversation with Élodie Royer about her work. An exchange not to be missed to understand the depth of her photographs.

Ai Iwane was born in Tokyo in 1975 and began her photography career in 1996 after attending an alternative high school in California. Her work explores human communities, their connection to nature and spirits, as well as collective and personal memory, particularly in relation to the 2011 Fukushima disaster. She has received numerous awards, including the Ihei Photography Award and the Prix Pictet.

Élodie Royer is an independent curator and doctoral student at the ENS. Since completing a residency in Japan the same year as the Fukushima disaster, she has collaborated regularly with the Japanese art scene, exploring the links between art, the environment, and ecofeminism in her projects. Among other things, she curated "The Ecology of Things" at the MCJP in 2025. She is also a teacher and a member of the acquisition committee of the KADIST Foundation.
