Amour diaries photographer Claudine Doury thirty year quest along the banks of the Amur River in Russia. She traveled along her banks in 1991, 1997 and 2018, making images that meet together in this book. As generations pass, the surroundings of the river shift and the traditions of the Siberian-descended people – wither.

During her 'odyssey', the ties Claudine Doury patiently wove with the families and landscapes around the river translated into powerful and timeless images. Amour brings together her black and white and color photographs with archival images, and reveals the photographer's intimate and sensitive relationship with this territory and its history.

'All they know is that in winter people arrive from the far north on reindeers to buy some bread, but not even the old men know what sort of people they are or where they come from.'

Anton Chekhov, The Island: A journey to Sakhalin , Washington Square Press, 1967

    ----

The story of a quest led by Claudine Doury over almost thirty years, Amour unfolds in the form of a diary that mixes several eras. The photographer's journey, which began in 1991 on the banks of the Russian river, continued in 1997 and then in 2018: generations followed one another, the banks of the river were transformed and the traditions of the descendants of the Siberians – faded away.

During this "odyssey", the links patiently woven by Claudine Doury with the families and landscapes of the river banks are fixed in recurring images of troubling timelessness. By bringing together her black and white and color photographs, mixed with archive images, this book reveals the photographer's deeply intimate and sensitive relationship with a territory and its history.

"All they know is that in winter you see people riding reindeer, from the far north, who are stocking up on wheat, but who these men are and where they come from, even the old people themselves do not know."

Anton Chekhov, Love is a Very Interesting Region, Ed. Cent pages, 1989
