Ikeda has been photographing members of the Ainu community for over a decade. His remarkable portraits document the ancient traditions still practiced by members of the Ainu community, as well as their daily lives within the context of modern Japanese society.

“A decade has passed since 2008, when I first began traveling to Hokkaido to photograph the Ainu. We drank and laughed, and sometimes we bickered. Today, it is these people I greet as I recall these memories. I reveled in these encounters and saddened by the partings; the photographs seem like a mere afterthought.”
