Italian photographer Luca Missoni has always cultivated a deep passion for the Moon. His interest in this celestial body began as a child, when he began exploring its surface with a small telescope in the 1960s, when space programs made the first lunar explorations possible. This passion subsequently led him to photograph the ever-changing appearance of the Moon in a rigorous, almost scientific manner, while continuing over the years to pursue his own artistic project, which culminated in the publication of a Lunar Atlas.

The book is introduced in a conversation with the artist and features an excerpt from Galileo Galilei's famous treatise on astronomy. 'Moon Atlas' comprises two main sections: in the first, the Moon is illustrated with over forty shots in a detailed sequence of phases; the second part brings together the unprecedented color experiments Missoni conducted with his photographs. Published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing, 'Moon Atlas' is a fascinating journey of discovery of a celestial body that has never ceased to fascinate humanity.
