Photographer Osamu Kanemura has remained faithful to film and has been photographing urban blocks in monochrome for over 20 years.
His works, which he has been exhibiting energetically since the 1990s, have been highly regarded both in Japan and abroad. His exhibition at the Nikon Salon, where he pinned acetic acid-smelling, underexposed, bleached, unevenly developed, underwashed, scratched, dusty, sticky, and wavy roller prints to the screen all over the wall without compositing them, received the Nobuo Ina Prize in 2014 for his keen critical awareness of contemporary issues.
Recently, his style has evolved to include digital works, video works, and the production of handmade photo books, and this collection of photographs dares to return to his roots, a group of silver halide works taken in the 1990s that capture the fluid urban fragments of Tokyo that Kanemura once pursued. This collection of previously unseen photographs by Osamu Kanemura is finally published!
